The infamous "60 CEOs"

Remember the letter signed by 60 CEOs that had impeccable timing in March 2011?  The letter that was used by the recall camp to fuel their fire and justify their cause?

Now, remember what Tamar Jacoby who formed ImmigrationWorks USA said her ultimate goal was....

....have a grassroots army in place when immigration
reform comes up again in Washington, ensuring that
next time, there will be the national business presence
that was missing during the last debate.

She wasn't kidding.

The "CEOs" were all members of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce/Arizona Chamber of Commerce.  Ten percent were members of the COC Board (denoted in red).  Note the candidates whom many have donated to in the past.

White House Guests

The recent talk about the "transparent" White House guest book logs (and their lack of "transparency") got us thinking about who actually has been to the White House?

WHITE HOUSE LOG

Here's a few:

Randy Parraz

-July 29, 2011   WH Tour (sure, it was just a tour but worth noting for future reference)

Jason LeVecke

-February 3, 2010  Visit with Noerena Limon  Office of Presidential Personnel whose bio states:

After I finished the CHCI fellowship, I moved back to California to work on a congressional race in the Inland Empire. After the campaign I became part of a seven person start-up team that brought City Year, the largest youth service organization in the country, to the city of Los Angeles. I then went on to pursue my graduate studies in Public Policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. For the summer I went to work for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Denver, Colorado where I served as the Associate Director of Budget and Finance. From there, I moved to Chicago and became the Deputy Communications Director for Hispanic Media for the Obama-Biden Campaign. I currently work in the White House in the office of Presidential Personnel, with a focus on the economic agencies.

Tamar Jacoby  Founder of ImmigrationWorks USA whose goal was to "have a grassroots army in place when immigration reform comes up again in Washington, ensuring that next time, there will be the national business presence that was missing during the last debate."
-Oct 6, 2009   Visit with Cecilia Munoz recently appointed by Obama to head his Domestic Policy Council.  Munoz also chaired the board of directors of the Center for Community Change, or CCC, a Soros-funded community organizing initiative whose board boasts activists from ACORN, MoveOn.org and other radical groups.

If CCC sounds familiar, it might be because we covered them before.  This is the group who donated $9000 in kind to Promise AZ en accion which was used to help canvass and support Jerry Lewis for Senate.  The Executive Director is Deepak Bhargava.  See his WH visits below.

-Dec 14, 2009  Holiday reception with POTUS

-March 11, 2010  Visit with Stephanie Valencia Associate Director in the Office of Public Engagement alongside Valerie Jarrett. Other visits to Valencia include Robert Creamer.  (bio)

 Valencia's bio states:

Valencia is responsible for outreach to the Hispanic community, immigration and housing.
She also works on Puerto Rico issues.
Before joining the administration, Valencia served on the Obama-Biden
Presidential Transition Team and was deputy Hispanic vote director on the Obama campaign. She also served as press secretary to U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.),
serving as his spokeswoman and media adviser.

-May 19, 2010  Visitors Office

-June 16, 2010  Visit with Felicia Escobar Senior Policy Advisor for the Domestic Policy Council- Immigration

Dolores C Huerta (Recently said to violate TUSD Ethnic Studies ban.)
Huerta also received help from Randy Parraz when he was with the AFL-CIO to unionize the strawberry workers.)

-June 28, 2010   Visit with POTUS (Immigration)

-Sept 15, 2010   Visit with Stephanie Valencia (Coffee and Breakfast/ Latino Briefing)

-Dec. 14, 2010  Visit with Tara Corrigan executive assistant to WH political director Patrick Gaspard. Gaspard spent much of his career working as a lobbyist and executive vice president for SEIU‘s Local 1199 in New York one of the union’s most powerful and notoriously militant chapters.

-Dec. 15, 2010   Visit with POTUS/ general reception

-Dec. 16, 2010   Visit with Brian Bond/WH Holiday Briefing/ meeting with Chelsea Kammerer

Bond is the Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement under Valerie Jarrett.  His bio states:

Bond has an extensive background in constituency outreach and coalition bridge-building. Most recently he served as the National Constituency Director for the
Obama for America Campaign in Chicago, Illinois.
Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee’s Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council. He also served several years as the
Executive Director of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund,
an organization committed to training and electing Out LGBT candidates for public office.

Kammerer is with the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Office of Public Engagement.  Irronically enough, Kammerer's office sent out a memo in 2009 regarding a new "Open Government Plan" in an effort to further the President’s commitment to increasing transparency and accountability in Washington.

-June 15, 2011   Visit with Colleen King Intern who works in offices such as Office of Cabinet Affairs, the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Office of Scheduling and Advance, the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, the Office of Health Reform, the Office of Legislative Affairs, the Office of Management and Administration, the Office of White House Counsel, the Office of Energy and Climate Change, the National Economic Council, the Office of Presidential Correspondence, the Presidential Personnel Office, the Communications Department, the Domestic Policy Council, the Office of the First Lady and the Office of the Vice President.

-July 11, 2011    Visit with POTUS

Deepak Bhargava
30 Visits on the WH log

Rosa Rosales   from League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)

-Dec. 15, 2009 - Holiday Reception with POTUS

-Feb. 25, 2010 - Meeting with Cecelia Munoz   (see above)

-May 19, 2010 - State Arrival (Mexico) and State Dinner with POTUS

-June 28, 2010 - Immigration meeting with POTUS

Just for fun: Put in names like Nancy Pelosi (50+ visits) which is less than Richard Trumka (AFL-CIO leader) with over 65 visits including a Super Bowl Party, Ed Pastor, Raul Grijalva.

Kirk Adams' Campaign Donors

We have done an extensive amount of research recently on campaign donations to various candidates and PACs.  This is a list of some of the donors to Kirk Adams' campaign in 2009 for the 2010 election cycle.  There were certainly some interesting discoveries.  The most obvious being that a majority of the donors were CEOs or who held high level positions in fields of healthcare, law, lobbying, government affairs and consulting.  Many of those CEO names appeared on the famous letter sent by "60 CEOs" encouraging a hold on future immigration legislation back in March 2011.  According to the Chamber,

"The Chamber says the letter's purpose is to voice concerns
over the unintended consequences to Arizona's image and economy
created by the immigration legislation under discussion at the Legislature."

PERCEIVED unintended consequences.

We'll look more in depth as to who those CEOs are and their motives later.  Seems like a lot of big names and big money coming in (from outside) for a State Legislator position for one district and certainly not what one might normally find in a "grassroots" effort.

One rather peculiar donation came from the Tohono O'odham Nation.  The same group that:

1.     Opposed the proposed immigration prison in 2009 intended to house illegals awaiting deporation or prosecution.

2.     Would later participate in a lawsuit against SB1070.

3.     Calls the fence along the border the Apartheid wall and genocide.

4.     Encourages "open borders" and "free movement for all".

One wonders the motive behind the contribution and if it had anything to do with the Tohono O'odham tribe's announcement in January 2009 regarding plans to build a casino in Glendale (Adams became Speaker of the House in January 2009).  This plan did not go over well with the people of Glendale or politicians.  On November 24, 2009, the tribe made a $410.00 donation to Kirk Adams' campaign.  A lawsuit was ultimately filed on the issue which Kirk Adams was listed as one of the Plaintiffs against the tribe and the Dept. of Interior- Ken Salazar. The lawsuit was finally settled in March 2011 with a judgment in favor of the Tohono O'odham tribe and the DOI.

Next we have the mulitple donors who serve on the board of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce.
