The infamous "60 CEOs"

Remember the letter signed by 60 CEOs that had impeccable timing in March 2011?  The letter that was used by the recall camp to fuel their fire and justify their cause?

Now, remember what Tamar Jacoby who formed ImmigrationWorks USA said her ultimate goal was....

....have a grassroots army in place when immigration
reform comes up again in Washington, ensuring that
next time, there will be the national business presence
that was missing during the last debate.

She wasn't kidding.

The "CEOs" were all members of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce/Arizona Chamber of Commerce.  Ten percent were members of the COC Board (denoted in red).  Note the candidates whom many have donated to in the past.

Kirk Adams' Campaign Donors

We have done an extensive amount of research recently on campaign donations to various candidates and PACs.  This is a list of some of the donors to Kirk Adams' campaign in 2009 for the 2010 election cycle.  There were certainly some interesting discoveries.  The most obvious being that a majority of the donors were CEOs or who held high level positions in fields of healthcare, law, lobbying, government affairs and consulting.  Many of those CEO names appeared on the famous letter sent by "60 CEOs" encouraging a hold on future immigration legislation back in March 2011.  According to the Chamber,

"The Chamber says the letter's purpose is to voice concerns
over the unintended consequences to Arizona's image and economy
created by the immigration legislation under discussion at the Legislature."

PERCEIVED unintended consequences.

We'll look more in depth as to who those CEOs are and their motives later.  Seems like a lot of big names and big money coming in (from outside) for a State Legislator position for one district and certainly not what one might normally find in a "grassroots" effort.

One rather peculiar donation came from the Tohono O'odham Nation.  The same group that:

1.     Opposed the proposed immigration prison in 2009 intended to house illegals awaiting deporation or prosecution.

2.     Would later participate in a lawsuit against SB1070.

3.     Calls the fence along the border the Apartheid wall and genocide.

4.     Encourages "open borders" and "free movement for all".

One wonders the motive behind the contribution and if it had anything to do with the Tohono O'odham tribe's announcement in January 2009 regarding plans to build a casino in Glendale (Adams became Speaker of the House in January 2009).  This plan did not go over well with the people of Glendale or politicians.  On November 24, 2009, the tribe made a $410.00 donation to Kirk Adams' campaign.  A lawsuit was ultimately filed on the issue which Kirk Adams was listed as one of the Plaintiffs against the tribe and the Dept. of Interior- Ken Salazar. The lawsuit was finally settled in March 2011 with a judgment in favor of the Tohono O'odham tribe and the DOI.

Next we have the mulitple donors who serve on the board of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce.
